Introduction: Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram)

Port Blair is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands located in the southernmost corner of the island. It is the main commercial and administrative hub of the Andaman Islands. The city has been a significant point of interest to explore India’s colonial history and freedom struggle with Cellular Jail as one of the prime symbols of oppression and brutalities of the British regime.

On September 13, 2024, the Government of India changed Port Blair’s name to Sri Vijaya Puram to remove colonial influences and pay tribute to India’s freedom struggle. Besides the fascinating tales of culture and history, Sri Vijaya Puram has many interesting attractions to explore.
